How to Make Beef Tacos

1. Prepare Ingredients

Chop the onion, mince the garlic, shred the cheese, chop the tomatoes, dice the avocado, and chop the cilantro.

2. Cook Onion

Heat two teaspoons of vegetable oil in a medium skillet over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and cook for about four minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onion is softened and translucent.

3. Add Garlic and Spices

Add the minced garlic, chili powder, ground cumin, ground coriander, dried oregano, cayenne pepper, and salt. Stir everything together and let it cook for about a minute.

4. Cook Ground Beef

Add the ground beef to the skillet. Break it up with a wooden spoon as it cooks, and cook until it's no longer pink, about five minutes.

5. Add Tomato Sauce and Broth

Pour in the tomato sauce, low-sodium chicken broth, brown sugar, and cider vinegar. Stir everything together and bring it to a simmer. Reduce the heat and let it simmer gently for about ten minutes, until the mixture has thickened.

6. Assemble Tacos

Divide the beef filling evenly among the warmed taco shells. Place two tacos on each plate and serve immediately with shredded cheese, shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, sour cream, diced avocado, chopped onion, minced cilantro, and hot sauce.

Variations

Guacamole

Replace or complement sour cream with guacamole for creaminess and a punch of flavor.

Chicken Tacos

Use boneless chicken thighs or breasts, diced or shredded after cooking.

Pickled Vegetables

Add pickled onions, radishes, or jalapeños for a tangy contrast.

Carne Asada

Marinate and grill flank steak for carne asada-style tacos, offering a charred and juicy meat option.

Salsa Varieties

Use pico de gallo, salsa verde, or a fruit-based salsa like mango or pineapple for different flavor profiles.
