1. Preheat Oven and Mix Meatball Ingredients
Preheat your oven to 400°F. In a large bowl, mix together the diced onion, heavy cream, egg yolks, ground cinnamon, ground cumin, crushed red pepper, and cayenne until just combined.
2. Combine Lamb with Spiced Onion Mixture
To the spiced onion mixture, add the ground lamb, bread crumbs, and chopped parsley. Mix gently with your hands to form meatballs.
3. Broil Meatballs
Shape the mixture into evenly sized balls and place them on a greased baking pan. Broil for 5 to 7 minutes until well browned.
4. Prepare Tomato Sauce
In a saucepan, warm extra-virgin olive oil over medium heat. Cook the remaining onion until soft, then add rosemary, red pepper, thyme, cumin, cinnamon, cayenne, and bay leaf. Add crushed tomatoes, granulated sugar, orange juice, and a strip of orange peel. Simmer for 15 to 19 minutes.
5. Bake Meatballs in Sauce
Pour the sauce into a baking dish, nestle the meatballs into the sauce, and bake for 15 to 20 minutes.
6. Garnish and Serve
Crumble feta cheese over the meatballs and sprinkle with thinly sliced mint leaves before serving.
