1. Preheat Oven and Grease Pan
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and generously grease a 9-inch round cake pan with butter.
2. Prepare Filling
In a medium bowl, mix together the very soft 1/2 cup butter, light brown sugar, cinnamon, and toasted chopped pecans until smooth.
3. Make Dough
In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, fine salt, and baking soda. Add the canola oil and mix until incorporated. Stir in the buttermilk until just blended, forming a soft dough.
4. Knead and Roll Dough
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it gently for about a minute. Roll the dough out into a 15-by-8-inch rectangle.
5. Add Filling and Shape Rolls
Spread the prepared filling evenly over the dough, leaving a 1/4-inch border all around. Starting from one long side, roll the dough into a tight cylinder, and then use a serrated knife to cut it into 8 slices.
6. Bake Rolls
Place the slices in the greased cake pan, spacing them evenly. Bake the rolls for 20 to 25 minutes, until they are golden brown and fragrant.
7. Prepare Glaze
While the rolls are baking, prepare the glaze. In a medium bowl, beat together the very soft cream cheese, confectioners' sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
8. Glaze and Serve
Once the rolls are done, let them cool in the pan for about 3-4 minutes before drizzling the glaze over them. Serve the rolls warm.
Incorporate crispy bacon bits into the dough and use a maple syrup-infused filling for a sweet and savory combination.
Use Nutella as the filling and sprinkle chopped hazelnuts before rolling up the dough.
Mix pumpkin puree and pumpkin pie spice into your filling for a seasonal treat, perfect for fall.
Replace the cinnamon and pecan filling with a chocolate spread or a mixture of cocoa powder, sugar, and melted butter.
Add lemon zest to the dough and use a filling made from blueberries (fresh or frozen), sugar, and lemon juice, with a lemon glaze on top.
