1. Make the Meatballs
In a large bowl, combine the panko bread crumbs, grated Parmesan, chopped parsley, minced garlic, kosher salt, dried oregano, black pepper, and a pinch of red pepper flakes. Add the very cold ground beef or turkey and the beaten egg to the mixture. Gently combine using your hands without overworking the meat. Form into golf ball-sized meatballs and place on a rimmed sheet pan. Broil for 6-9 minutes until golden.
2. Prepare the Bread
Cut the Italian bread in half lengthwise and place on a sheet pan. Toast in the oven for about 3 minutes to crisp up.
3. Make the Garlic Butter
Mix together the melted butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley or basil, grated Parmesan, and a pinch of red pepper flakes. Brush this mixture over the cut sides of the toasted bread.
4. Assemble the Sandwiches
Place the broiled meatballs on the garlic-buttered bread, scatter torn mozzarella on top, and bake until the cheese is melted and bubbly, about 5-7 minutes.
5. Serve
Spoon warm marinara sauce over the meatballs, close the sandwich, and cut into portions for serving.
