A flavorful Hyderabadi dish made with a tomato-based karhi and optional vegetable dumplings for added texture and taste.
1. Sift Flour
Start by sifting the flour into a bowl to ensure it's smooth and free of lumps.
2. Make Flour Paste
Slowly add 0.5 cups of water to the sifted flour, mixing continuously to form a thick, smooth paste without any lumps.
3. Incorporate Remaining Water
Gradually add the remaining 2.5 cups of water to the flour mixture, stirring constantly to prevent lumps and create a well-blended mixture.
4. Add Tomato Sauce
Add the tomato sauce to the bowl and mix thoroughly until well incorporated. Set this mixture aside.
5. Prepare Optional Veggie Dumplings
If using, slice the green peppers, onions, mushrooms, squash, and zucchini. Heat a little oil in a pan and lightly sauté the vegetables. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
6. Add Veggie Dumplings to Karhi
Add the sautéed vegetables to the tomato karhi about 10 minutes before the cooking time is over to allow the flavors to meld together.
7. Serve
When ready to serve, follow the traditional method for serving karhi. Enjoy your flavorful Hyderabadi Tomato Karhi with or without the veggie dumplings!
