1. Sift dry ingredients
Sift together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt, then set this mixture aside.
2. Cream butter and sugars
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter, smooth peanut butter, granulated sugar, and light brown sugar using an electric mixer until smooth and creamy.
3. Add wet ingredients
Add the large egg, milk, and vanilla extract to the creamed mixture. Beat until well blended.
4. Combine wet and dry ingredients
Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing thoroughly until you have a uniform dough. If the dough is very soft, place it in the refrigerator for about an hour to firm up.
5. Preheat oven
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Prepare your cookie sheets by spraying them lightly with nonstick spray or oiling them.
6. Shape and coat dough balls
Roll the dough into 1-inch balls. Divide the dough into five pieces and shape each piece into 12 balls. Roll each ball in granulated sugar until fully coated, then place them on the cookie sheet about 2 inches apart.
7. Bake cookies
Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 6 to 8 minutes, until they are very light brown and puffed.
8. Add Hershey’s Kiss
Immediately after removing the cookies from the oven, lightly press a Hershey’s Kiss into the center of each one. Return the cookies to the oven for an additional 2 to 3 minutes until they turn a light golden brown.
9. Cool cookies
Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool completely on a wire rack. Once cooled, store them in an airtight container.
Instead of placing a chocolate kiss on top, make a small indentation in the center of each cookie before baking and fill it with your favorite jam or jelly after the cookies have cooled slightly.
Swap out the chocolate kiss for a handful of chocolate chips mixed into the dough.
Press a caramel-filled chocolate kiss into the center for an ooey-gooey surprise.
Lightly sprinkle sea salt on the cookies immediately after pressing the chocolate kisses into the cookies, adding a delightful sweet and salty contrast.
Instead of a chocolate kiss, press a mini peanut butter cup, a piece of toffee, or a chocolate-covered caramel into the center of each cookie.
