1. Prepare Apples
Peel, core, and slice the Granny Smith apples into half-inch thick pieces.
2. Prepare Cake Pan
Grease an 8-inch springform cake pan with softened butter, then dust it with flour. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
3. Mix Dry Ingredients
Sift together the all-purpose flour and baking powder.
4. Cream Sugar and Butter
In a standing mixer, beat together granulated sugar and softened salted butter until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, and continue to mix for three minutes. Alternately add the flour mixture and whole milk, mixing gradually.
5. Arrange Apples and Add Toppings
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Arrange the apple slices on top of the batter. Sprinkle with sliced almonds, dark brown sugar, and cinnamon. Dot the top with pieces of the remaining butter.
6. Bake the Cake
Bake for about an hour or until the cake is golden and a tester comes out clean.
7. Cool and Serve
Allow the cake to cool until it's just warm before serving.
