How to Make The Best Baked Beans

    1. Preheat Oven and Cook Bacon

Preheat your oven to 400°F. In a large skillet over medium heat, heat ¼ cup of olive oil and add the bacon slices. Cook for about 5 to 8 minutes until the bacon becomes crispy and golden.

    2. Caramelize Onions or Leeks

Add the thinly sliced onion or leeks to the skillet and season them with salt and freshly ground pepper. Let them caramelize for about 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

    3. Add Garlic and Herbs

Once the onions are caramelized, stir in the finely chopped garlic and thyme. Let them cook for 1 to 2 minutes until the garlic is softened but not browned.

    4. Deglaze with Wine

Pour in ¼ cup of dry white wine and let it reduce by half.

    5. Combine Beans and Transfer to Baking Dish

Add the cooked beans, 1 cup of bean cooking liquid or broth, and the finely grated Parmesan cheese. Transfer everything to a 2-quart baking dish, and season with salt and pepper to taste.

    6. Topping and Baking

In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of fresh bread crumbs with 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Season with salt and pepper, then evenly spread the bread crumbs over the beans in the baking dish. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the bread crumbs are a golden color and the beans are bubbly.
