How to Make Slow Cooker BBQ Pulled Pork

    1. Marinate the Pork

Mix together the garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper in a bowl. Rub this spice blend all over the pork shoulder. Optionally, wrap the seasoned pork in plastic and let it marinate in the refrigerator for a few hours or overnight.

    2. Sear the Pork

Heat a skillet with vegetable oil and sear the pork on all sides until browned. Place the seared pork in the greased slow cooker. Optionally, sprinkle chopped yellow onion around the pork.

    3. Slow Cook the Pork

Pour a can of dark soda over the pork in the slow cooker. Cook on low for 6 to 8 hours until the pork is tender enough to fall apart.

    4. Shred and Sauce the Pork

Drain off the excess liquid from the slow cooker. Shred the pork with forks or tongs, then mix in barbecue sauce to coat the shredded pork. Add hot sauce to taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.

    5. Broil for Crispiness

For added crunch, place the shredded, sauced pork under the broiler for a few minutes until crisped to your liking.
