How to Make Classic Tomato Basil Bruschetta

    1. Tomato Preparation

Place the chopped tomatoes in a colander over a bowl or sink. Sprinkle with kosher salt and stir gently. Allow to drain for up to 2 hours to remove excess liquid.

    2. Garlic Oil Infusion

In a small saucepan, combine olive oil and minced garlic. Warm over low heat for about 5 minutes or until garlic is softened and aromatic, taking care not to brown the garlic. Remove from heat and let cool.

    3. Basil Prep

While the garlic oil cools, thinly slice the basil leaves crosswise after rolling them up.

    4. Bruschetta Assembly

In a medium bowl, mix the drained tomatoes with the cooled garlic oil and the sliced basil. Taste and adjust seasoning with additional salt if needed. To serve, spoon the tomato mixture generously over slices of grilled or toasted crusty bread.

    Variations

    Mozzarella Bruschetta

Add slices of fresh mozzarella or burrata to marry the acidity of the tomatoes with creamy, milky soft cheese.

    Prosciutto Bruschetta

Drape thin slices of prosciutto over the tomato basil topping for a salty, savory twist.

    Balsamic Bruschetta

Drizzle balsamic reduction over the tomato topping for a sweet and tangy glaze.

    White Bean Bruschetta

Top the classic mixture with cannellini beans for a protein-packed vegetarian option.

    Smoked Salmon Bruschetta

Add smoked salmon and a dollop of crème fraîche to introduce a smoky, creamy element.
