How to Make Honey-Glazed Carrots

1. Prep Carrots

In a 12-inch nonstick skillet, combine sliced carrots, salt, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and broth. Cover and set over medium-high heat to bring to a boil.

2. Simmer Carrots

Once boiling, adjust heat to medium. Simmer, stirring occasionally, for approximately 5 minutes or until carrots are nearly tender when tested with a paring knife.

3. Reduce Liquid

Remove cover, increase heat to high and let the liquid simmer rapidly. Stir occasionally until reduced to about 2 tablespoons, which should take 1 to 2 minutes.

4. Glaze Carrots

Add butter and the remaining 2 tablespoons of sugar to the skillet. Toss the carrots to coat them well and continue cooking. Stir frequently for about 3 minutes until the carrots are completely tender and the glaze turns light gold in color.

5. Finish & Serve

Turn off the heat and stir in the lemon juice, coating the carrots evenly. Transfer the carrots to a serving dish, making sure to scrape any remaining glaze from the pan. Season with black pepper to taste and serve immediately.

Variations

Citrus Twist

Add the zest and juice of an orange or a lemon to the glaze. A splash of Grand Marnier or other citrus liqueur can elevate the dish.

Citrus-Glazed Carrots

Add orange zest and juice to the glaze for a bright and refreshing twist on the classic recipe.

Ginger Zing

Grate fresh ginger into the glaze to balance the sweetness of the honey and carrots with a spicy kick.

Maple Syrup Swap

Replace honey with maple syrup for a deeper sweetness. Maple syrup pairs well with a touch of bourbon.

Maple-Glazed Carrots

Substitute maple syrup for honey to give the carrots a deeper, more autumnal flavor.
