How to Make Sugar-Free Southern-Style Citrus Quencher

1. Prepare Sweet Tea

Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Remove the pan from the heat and add the black tea bags along with the baking soda. Cover the saucepan and let the tea steep for about 15 minutes.

2. Sweeten the Tea

After the tea has steeped, remove the tea bags and stir in 0.5 cups of powdered erythritol sweetener until it dissolves completely. Add the remaining 2 cups of water and stir until well combined.

3. Prepare Lemonade

Combine 3.25 cups of water, fresh lemon juice, and 0.5 cups of powdered erythritol sweetener in a container. Stir until the sweetener is fully dissolved.

4. Serve the Drink

Fill glasses with ice cubes. Pour equal parts of sweet tea and lemonade into each glass. Alternatively, mix the sweet tea and lemonade in a 2-quart pitcher and serve directly. Adjust sweetness if necessary.

Pitfalls and tips

Freshness is Key

Use the freshest fruits you can find and juice them just before preparing the quencher to maximize flavor and nutrients.

Balance Your Sweetness

Adjust the amount of sugar substitute based on your sweetener's potency and your personal preference for sweetness.

Chill Time

Allow the quencher to refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight to meld the flavors and enhance the drink's refreshing quality.

Dissolve Your Sweetener

Make a simple syrup by dissolving the sweetener in warm water before adding it to the pitcher to ensure it blends smoothly.

Variations

Experiment with adding unsweetened cranberry juice or muddling fresh berries for a twist and an antioxidant boost.
