How to Make Classic Tuna Melt

    1. Prepare Tuna

In a bowl, use a fork to flake the drained tuna until it appears evenly shredded.

    2. Make Tuna Salad

Combine the flaked tuna with mayonnaise, chopped cornichons or pickles, minced red onion, lemon juice, fresh dill if you're using, whole-grain mustard, kosher salt, and black pepper. Stir these together until the mixture is thoroughly combined.

    3. Assemble Sandwiches

Spoon about 1/3 to 1/2 cup of the tuna salad onto one side of four bread slices. Top the tuna salad with cheddar slices.

    4. Butter Bread

Butter the exterior of each bread slice with a generous 1/2 tablespoon of softened butter.

    5. Cook Tuna Melts

Heat a skillet over medium-low heat. Cook the sandwiches with the buttered side down for about 3-4 minutes or until the bread turns golden brown. Flip and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until the other side is golden and the cheese is melted.
