How to Make Simple and Savory Cornbread

1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Dish

Preheat your oven to 425°F. Generously butter an 8- or 9-inch baking dish or skillet.

2. Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cornmeal, flour, sugar (if using), baking powder, and salt. Stir these ingredients together until well blended.

3. Mix Milk and Egg

In a separate 2-cup measuring cup, whisk together the milk and egg.

4. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

5. Add Melted Butter and Pour Batter
