How to Make Homestyle Yeasted Waffles

    1. Prepare Milk and Butter Mixture

Gently heat the milk and unsalted butter together in a small pot over the stove until the butter is melted. Remove from the heat and stir in the sugar and salt. Set aside to cool until just warm to the touch.

    2. Activate Yeast

In a large bowl, whisk together warm water and active dry yeast. Allow them to sit for approximately 5 minutes, or until the surface becomes foamy.

    3. Combine Milk Mixture and Yeast

Add the lukewarm milk mixture to the yeast, then whisk in the all-purpose flour and whole wheat flour until smooth.

    4. Let Batter Rest

Cover the batter with plastic wrap and let it stand in a warm place until it has doubled in size, approximately 2 to 3 hours, or refrigerate overnight.

    5. Prepare Waffle Iron and Batter

Preheat your waffle iron. Whisk the beaten eggs and baking soda into the batter before cooking.

    6. Cook Waffles

Lightly butter the waffle iron and pour in the batter. Cook until golden and crisp. Re-butter the iron between batches if necessary.
