How to Make Steamed Artichokes with Salted Garlic Butter

1. Prepare the Artichokes

Trim the artichokes by cutting the stems to about ¾ inch long. Next, slice off the top 2 inches of each artichoke to remove the tough upper leaves. Use kitchen shears to trim the spiny leaf ends, ensuring they are safe to handle.

2. Set Up for Steaming

In a large pot, add about 2 inches of water. Place the prepared artichokes in the pot, ensuring they are upright and stable. Bring the water to a boil, then reduce to a weak simmer. Cover the pot with a lid to trap the steam.

3. Steam the Artichokes

Let the artichokes steam gently for 50 to 60 minutes. This method allows them to cook evenly and helps retain their delicate flavor. You'll know they are done when the leaves can be removed easily.

4. Prepare the Garlic Butter
