How to Make Boiled or Steamed Artichokes with Butter or Mayonnaise

    1. Prepare the Artichokes

Using a sharp knife, trim the stems of the artichokes and remove the thorns with kitchen scissors.

    2. Boil or Steam the Artichokes

If boiling, place the artichokes in a pot filled with salted water. Bring the water to a gentle boil and let the artichokes cook for about 30 minutes. If steaming, set up your steamer over a pot of water and cook the artichokes for the same amount of time.

    3. Test Doneness

Test the doneness of your artichokes by inserting a knife or skewer into the base. If it slides in easily, your artichokes are ready.

    4. Serve

Serve the artichokes with a side of melted butter or homemade mayonnaise in a small ramekin.
