A fragrant and fluffy jasmine rice, perfect as a side dish for various meals.
1. Wash the Rice
Take your 3 cups of jasmine rice and place them in a large bowl. Wash the rice thoroughly by adding water, swishing it around, and then draining it. Repeat this process several times until the water runs clear. This step is crucial as it removes excess starch, which helps achieve a non-sticky texture for your cooked rice.
2. Prepare the Rice for Cooking
Place the washed rice into a heavy straight-sided pot with a tight-fitting lid or into your rice cooker. Add enough water to cover the rice, using the first joint of your index finger as a guide for the correct water-to-rice ratio. The water should reach the level of the first joint when you touch your finger to the surface of the rice.
3. Cook the Rice
If you’re using a pot, cover it with the lid and bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat. Once it starts boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 15 minutes. If you’re using a rice cooker, simply follow the cooker’s instructions.
4. Let the Rice Stand
After the cooking time is up, remove the pot from the heat but keep it covered. Let the rice stand for an additional 10 minutes. This resting period allows the rice to finish cooking evenly and absorb any remaining moisture.
5. Fluff and Serve
Use a moistened rice paddle or a flat wooden spoon to gently turn the rice from the outside in. This fluffs the rice without breaking the grains, ensuring a light and airy texture. Serve the aromatic jasmine rice straight from the pot and enjoy its delicate fragrance and perfect texture.
