1. Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 400°F. While the oven is heating up, line a sheet pan with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
2. Prepare Work Surface
Lightly dust your work surface with all-purpose flour. Unfold the defrosted puff pastry sheet and place it on the floured surface. Using a rolling pin, gently roll the pastry to smooth out any folds, but be careful not to make it too thin.
3. Cut Shapes
Using a star-shaped or fluted round cookie cutter, cut the puff pastry into 12 pieces. Arrange these cutouts on the prepared sheet pan, spacing them slightly apart.
4. Apply Egg Wash
In a small bowl, beat together the extra-large egg with the tablespoon of heavy cream to make the egg wash. Brush the tops of the pastry cutouts with the egg wash.
5. Season Pastry
Sprinkle a pinch of kosher salt and a grind of freshly ground black pepper over each piece for added flavor.
6. Bake Pastry
Place the sheet pan in the preheated oven and bake for 8 to 10 minutes. Keep an eye on them; you’ll know they’re ready when they’ve puffed up and turned a gorgeous golden brown.
7. Serve
Enjoy your golden flaky puff pastry bites warm, straight from the oven. They make a delightful, crispy addition to any meal or appetizer spread.
