How to Make Oranges in Spiced Syrup

1. Prepare the Spiced Syrup

In a small saucepan, combine the water, granulated sugar, cloves, cardamom pods, cinnamon stick, star anise, and the split vanilla bean. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves and the syrup slightly reduces. This should take about 10 to 15 minutes.

2. Prepare the Oranges

While the syrup is simmering, peel the oranges with a paring knife, removing as much of the white pith as possible, and slice them into quarter-inch thick rounds. Set them aside.

3. Assemble the Dish

Once the syrup is ready, remove it from the heat and allow it to cool slightly. Arrange the orange slices on a serving platter and drizzle the warm spiced syrup over the oranges, ensuring each slice is well-coated with the syrup.
