Perfectly steamed eggs with tender whites that are easy to peel, served hot or cold.
1. Prepare Ice Bath
To begin, if you plan on serving the eggs cold, fill a large bowl with water and add a tray of ice cubes. This will create an ice bath to cool the eggs quickly after steaming.
2. Prepare Steaming Setup
Next, prepare your steaming setup. Add about an inch of water to a large pot and place a steamer insert inside. Cover the pot and bring the water to a boil over high heat.
3. Steam the Eggs
Once the water is boiling, gently place the 6 eggs into the steamer basket. Cover the pot again and let the eggs steam. For soft-boiled eggs with a runny yolk, cook them for 6 minutes. If you prefer hard-boiled eggs with firm yolks, steam them for 12 minutes.
4. Cool the Eggs
After the eggs have finished steaming, you have two options: serve them hot immediately, or cool them down for later. If you’re serving the eggs hot, you can peel and enjoy them right away.
5. Transfer to Ice Bath
If you prefer cold eggs, carefully transfer them to the bowl of ice water. Let them cool in the ice bath for at least 15 minutes. This stops the cooking process and makes peeling easier.
6. Peel and Serve
When ready to peel, tap the eggs gently to crack the shell, and remove the shell under running water. The water helps to loosen the shell and makes the peeling process smoother.
