How to Make Zesty Agave Margaritas

    1. Prepare Citrus Mixture

Start by combining the grated lime zest, lime juice, grated lemon zest, lemon juice, superfine sugar, and a pinch of table salt in a large liquid measuring cup. Cover this mixture with plastic wrap and refrigerate it for at least 4 hours, or up to 24 hours.

    2. Prepare Glasses

When you’re ready to serve, begin by dividing one cup of crushed ice among 4 to 6 margarita or double old-fashioned glasses.

    3. Mix Margaritas

Take the juice mixture out of the fridge and strain it into a 1-quart pitcher or a cocktail shaker to remove any zest particles. Then, add the tequila, Triple Sec, and the remaining crushed ice to the pitcher or shaker.

    4. Final Stir

Stir or shake the mixture for about 20 to 60 seconds until the drink is cold and well-mixed. Finally, strain the cocktail into the ice-filled glasses and serve immediately.

    Variations

    Fruit-Infused Margarita

Swap agave for fruit-infused syrup or muddle fresh fruits like strawberries, raspberries, or mango.

    Seasonal Margarita

Use seasonal fruits or spices to tailor the margarita to the time of year.

    Classic Margarita

Use agave syrup for a smoother sweetness that complements the tequila.

    Spicy Margarita

Add fresh jalapeño slices or chili powder for a contrasting spicy kick.

    Smoky Margarita

Use mezcal instead of tequila for a smoky twist.
