How to Make Sauteed Broccoli with Garlic and Chili

1. Prep

Start by cutting the broccoli into bite-sized florets, ensuring they are approximately the same size for even cooking. Thinly slice the garlic cloves, and if using a fresh chili, finely chop it. Set aside.

2. Saute

Heat a large pan over medium-high heat and add the avocado oil. Once the oil is shimmering, add the broccoli florets. Stir occasionally and saute until the broccoli is starting to caramelize and is becoming tender.

3. Add Aromatics

Reduce the heat to medium and add the garlic and chili to the pan with the broccoli. Stir continuously for about 1-2 minutes. You're aiming for the garlic to become fragrant and just barely start to take on color. Be careful not to let it brown too much, as garlic can become bitter when overcooked.

4. Finishing Ingredients

Add a splash of water to the pan and place a lid on the pan and let the broccoli steam for about 2 minutes to finish cooking. Remove the lid from the pan and evaporate off any excess liquid, season the broccoli with freshly squeezed lemon juice to taste.
